I plan the route on Basecamp and then convert to a trip and upload the trip to the device.
Also, I have turned off Automatic Route Recalculation on the device so that the trip is not does not get changed once it's active.
When creating a route I simply create the initial route from start point...

Something to be aware of - only the 900 GS is the new frame, the 'new' 800 and 900 GS ADV actually make use of the old 850 frame.
They therefor don't share the weight loss of the standard 900 GS and are as heavy as before.

You misunderstand, I was referring to the people one encounters.
The rural people are more chilled and quiet helpful I have found. Closer to cities the sentiment is far less easy going.
Yip this is often overlooked and is why I will never buy a bike with tubed tyres. Complete deal breaker.
In a big group it may be a different story but riding alone and being stuck next to the with flat needing repair leaves one vulnerable to whoever passes by.
I think you have answered your own question and my feeling is that it is okay to feel the way you do about it. Postpone riding until you feel ready for it and if that day never comes that's also okay.
