The stator is 3-phase. Measure the ohms of each of the 3 phases. See if it is within spec. Then go and take a ride - let it get hot. Measure the ohms reading for each of the phases again.

I guess everyone has to make up their mind with how much "risk" they are willing to live with. Some people will run the size 20, 18, 14 or 7. The size 7 is too small for my comfort level :D
