It is easily remedied, don't let it put you off a fantastic bike, my '18 1000 has 50k km on now and no sign of it yet.

Believe that is a well known issue on the 1000 Strom

I own two different v-twins (different manufacturers). Neither of them enjoy revs under 3k, so I never really ride them down there...

I cut the leg off a old pair of denim jeans and slipped it over the whole shock and tied it off top and bottom.. Keeps it perfectly...

Pretty much what Bear said. I did find that the longer I commuted by bike, the more frustrated I became when I had to use the bakkie...
